### Why can a fridge not go out with regular waste?

Refrigerant gases have to be recovered by a licensed handler before the metal shell can be shredded. City collection either refuses refrigerant units or restricts them heavily, so most Toronto residents need a service that routes them properly.

### Should I empty and defrost it first?

Yes please. Empty the food out and unplug it a few hours before your window so it is not actively dripping. If that is not possible, tell us and we will bring extra matting.

### Can you get it out of the basement?
