What Is Piano Removal?

Piano removal in Toronto covers upright, baby grand, and grand pianos from homes, studios, schools, and churches. Every removal uses specialty piano dollies rated to 1,200 lbs, Skootch piano sliders, and stair ramps - not standard appliance dollies or furniture straps. A WSIB-compliant two-person crew handles disassembly of grand piano lids, music desks, and legs before stair navigation.

We remove pianos across Toronto for people who have inherited one, downsized, or finally accepted that the instrument in the basement has not been playable for a decade. The job is not complicated, but it is entirely about equipment, planning, and having two people who have done it before. Having two trained people and the right equipment on every visit is standard across our junk removal service in Toronto and the GTA, not an upgrade you pay extra for.

What Is Included

  • Assessment of the route before anything moves
  • Lifting straps, piano dolly, skid board, and ramps as needed
  • Blanket padding on the case and protection on floors and door frames
  • Controlled stair descent or ascent in staged movements
  • Transport and responsible disposal, with metal components recycled
  • A fixed price agreed before we begin

Common Problems We Solve

The Basement Piano

Getting a piano down into a rec room was usually done by four people and a lot of optimism twenty years ago. Getting it back up is the harder half. We plan the ascent, clear the landing and turn, and move it in controlled stages rather than in one push.

Narrow Century-Home Stairs

Older Toronto homes have tight staircases with a turn partway down. Our crew measures before starting, and where the geometry genuinely does not work we discuss options before anything is committed.

Nobody Will Quote It

Most junk removal companies will not price a piano over the phone because they do not have the equipment. We do, so we can give you a number based on the piano type and the access route without a site visit.

Protecting The Property

A piano gouging a hardwood floor or cracking a door frame costs more to fix than the removal. Padding, floor protection, and a planned route are standard on every job, backed by $2M liability insurance.

What It Costs

Pricing is set by two things: the type of piano and how far it has to travel to the truck.

  • Upright, ground floor, short carry: $149 to $199
  • Upright, one flight of stairs: $199 to $279
  • Baby grand or grand: $249 to $349

Disposal is included in every price. If the piano is coming out as part of a larger clear-out, it is usually cheaper to combine it with a full estate cleanout or general junk removal in Toronto rather than booking two visits.

The Difference

Why Choose Us For Piano Removal

The Right Equipment

Lifting straps, a piano dolly, skid boards, and ramps. Trying this with a regular appliance trolley is how floors and backs get damaged.

Stairs Handled Safely

A piano on a staircase is a controlled descent, not a lift. We plan the route, clear the landing, and move it in stages.

Insured For The Job

$2M general liability and WSIB compliance mean the property and the crew are both covered while several hundred kilograms is in motion.

One Fixed Price

Quoted by piano type and access before we start. No hourly billing on a job where slow and careful is the correct pace.

Simple Process

How Our Piano Removal Works

  1. 01

Tell Us The Type And Route

Upright or grand, which floor, and how many steps to the truck. That sets the crew size and the price.

  2. 02

    Book A Window

Piano jobs are scheduled with extra time so the crew is never rushing a heavy lift.

  3. 03

    Strap, Protect, Move

We pad the case, strap the piano to a dolly or skid board, protect the floor, and move it in controlled stages.

  4. 04

    Haul And Recycle

The cast-iron plate, strings, and hardware go to metal recycling, and the case timber is disposed of responsibly.

Piano Removal FAQs

How much does piano removal cost in Toronto?

An upright on a ground floor is $149 to $199. An upright with a flight of stairs runs $199 to $279. Baby grands and grands are $249 to $349 depending on size and access. The price is confirmed before we start.

Can you remove a piano from a basement?

Yes. Basement pianos are common and the stair route is the main factor in pricing. We plan the descent or ascent, clear the landing, and move the instrument in controlled stages with straps.

Do you take grand pianos apart?

We remove the legs and lyre on grands so the case can go onto a padded skid board. That is standard practice for moving a grand safely and it is included in the price.

Will you scratch my floors or walls?

We protect the route before anything moves, with blankets on the case and coverings on hardwood. We also carry $2M liability insurance, so on the rare occasion something goes wrong you are covered.

What happens to the piano after pickup?

Pianos have very little resale value and most are beyond economical repair by the time they are removed. The cast-iron plate, strings, pedals, and hardware go to metal recycling and the case timber is disposed of responsibly.

Can you donate my piano instead?

Occasionally. If the instrument holds tune and the action is sound, tell us when you book and we will let you know whether a local partner is accepting pianos that month. Most schools and charities have stopped taking them.

How much does an upright piano weigh?

Typically 180 to 320 kilograms, and a grand can exceed 400. That is why a two-person crew, straps, and a dolly are not optional on this job.

Still have a question?

Call the crew directly and we will tell you straight whether we can take it and what it costs.
